The Multicultural Center is a beautiful resource on campus to unite all the ethnicities of the students. The center is run by Yemi Mahoney, and is a place where students from different backgrounds meet to enjoy and discuss their cultures and lifestyle.

There are many fantastic events coming up for the Multicultural Center that revolve around celebrating all the different cultures and ethnicities of Saint Anselm students.

The most recent event that occurred was Multicultural Day on October 15th. If you had walked into Davison that day, you would have noticed all the vibrant colors decorating the space with loud music that sounded like it was being played not only with foreign instruments, but also with the heart and soul of the entertainers playing it live.

Students celebrated their culture with food and entertainment, while interacting with students from other countries. There was a feast of decadent and delectable food ranging from South American drinks, African appetizers, Asian dishes and European desserts. There were people in their culture's typical clothing and displaying many traditional artifacts from their homeland. If you were not lucky enough to witness that beautiful array of the world on a smaller scale, there are still many events upcoming run by the Multicultural Center.

On Saturday, November 5th, the Multicultural Center will be taking a New York City bus trip to explore the spontaneous and chaotic scenery New York has to offer. Students will visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the magnificent artwork displayed from all around the world. The exhibits feature paintings, drawings and sculptures from some of the world's most talented artists. The students will spend the rest of the day sightseeing in New York City.

Mahoney wanted to take the kids away from their comfortable environment here at Saint Anselm to make them appreciate their cultures a little more through artwork. Art is a universal brilliance that students can really learn to bond to and be amazed by. New York City is a perfect place for that because it is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The trip is being cosponsored by the Humanities Department.

On Thursday, December 1st, the Multicultural Center will hold a Intercultural Holiday Dinner. Students are welcome to enjoy different ethnic foods and meet new people who have unique soulful backgrounds. Students will have a wonderful time winning prizes and listening to the Holiday traditions from around the world. It is a wonderful way for students to meet new people and learn about how different places celebrate their culture. It is being cosponsored by Campus Ministry.

Other Events include the Blindfold Dinner and Enough is Enough Week. The Blindfold Dinner is hosted to support the people who are unable to see. Students will wear blindfolds and learn to read and do basic activities without using their eyes. It is a very amusing and interactive way for students to do something out of the ordinary.

During Enough is Enough Week, several Campus organizations set up programs to raise awareness of violence on campuses and how to prevent it. The Multicultural Center will be giving a training called "Step it Up" that addresses bystander intervention and working with Take Back the Night (a new campus organization) on the Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project is a fun way for students to decorate shirts in order to express their ideas of nonviolence. The dates are still being decided on these events, but be sure to check out and join in on the beautiful phenomena of the cultures of Saint Anselm.
